1914 Star (2531 Pte., 9/High.LI.); British War Medal; Victory Medal 1914-19 (Capt. on these) : (DAVID BIGGART - Born 10 July 1890 at Johnstone, Nr. Glasgow, the son of John Blair Biggart, a cotton mills proprietor and employed in the cotton spinning industry at the date he attested for the 9th.Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, 3 September 1914 : He entered the war in France from 5 November 1914 and was promoted to the rank of Corporal on 7 June 1915 : Appointed to a Commission with 2nd. Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders as Temp. 2nd. Lieutenant from 19 September 1915 : On 12 April 1916 whilst leading a night patrol party to within thirty yards of the German lines, he was struck by a bullet which passed through his jaw smashing a tooth and exiting through his nose, killing the man beside him : He was invalided to England for treatment and upon being declared fit to resume general service, returned to France in September 1916, when he was posted to the 14th.Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders : On 24 April 1917 during the taking of Beaucamp Village he was again wounded in action and was subsequently invalided to England for treatment : (Beaucamp was the first occasion that the Battalion had 'Gone over the top', and it had suffered five Officers killed, seven wounded, and lost in all about 250 other ranks, with 'D' Company retuning from the attack with just twenty-five men. The recipient is mentioned in the private diary of Captain George Bartholomew, as having been 'wounded twice' during the attack on Beaucamp.) : On return to duty he was attached to 29th (City of London) Battalion, The London Regiment, just one Company of which formed part of the Syren Force and was sent to Murmansk, North Russia : On 10 February 1919 he was invalided to England suffering from Bell's Paralysis, caused by exposure to extreme cold. He relinquished his Commission with effect from 8 May 1920 : He was MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES on three occasions - London Gazette dated 15 June 1916 (France); London Gazette dated 21 December 1917 (France); London Gazette dated 16 January 1919 (North Russia), this being just one of only three "Mentions" for the 29th.London Regiment for operations in North Russia : His Medal Information Card gives no indication as to entitlement to the 'Aug-Nov 1914' Bar for the 1914 Star.) : Sold with verification; copy Service Papers; copy London Gazette entries and related research : NEF - £595
