Enlisted 7 August 1914, whilst living in Rhodesia : Granted Commission as Temporary 2nd.Lieutenant, 10th.Seaforth Highlanders from 19 March 1915 : Landed in France 7 October 1915 and joined 9th.Battalion of the Regiment the following day : In command of No.10 Platoon from 13 July 1916 : Wounded in action on 7 August 1916 and promoted Lieutenant from 23 August 1916 : Wounded again in action on 30 August 1916 : MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES 9 April 1917 (London Gazette 25 May 1917) : Acting Captain from 20 July 1917 : Re-joined 9th.Battalion 30 April 1918 : MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES, 16 March 1919 (London Gazette 9 July 1919) : Relinquished Commission on completion of service 27 May 1919.
