E.Kent R.); British War Medal; Victory Medal 1914-19 (3305 A.WO.Cl.2 E.Kent R.); Meritorious Service Medal, GVR., Field Marshal's bust (G-3305 Cpl. - AQM.Sjt. 7/E.Kent R.) : (FREDERICK HERRING BROOKS - Born 22 November 1880 at Dalston, London, a commercial traveller by occupation at the date of attestation on 9 September 1914 : Posted Private to 7th.Battalion, East Kent Regiment and appointed Lance Corporal ten days later; promoted to Corporal on 18 November 1914 : Entered the War in France from 28 July 1915 and would have been engaged in various actions on the Western Front : In 1916 the Battalion fought in the battles of Albert; Bazentin Ridge; Delville Wood; Thiepval Ridge; Ancre Heights and The Ancre : In 1917 it was in action again during operations on the Ancre; the German retreat to the Hindenberg Line; the battles of Pilkem Ridge; Langemarck and the first and second battles of Passchendaele : In 1918 the Battalion fought at the battles of St.Quentin; Avre; the actions of Villers-Brettoneux and the battles of Amiens; Albert; Second Bapaume; Epehy; St Quentin Canal; the Selle and the Sambre : On 11 November 1918, it ended the war at Pommereuil, east of Le Cateau, France : The recipient was appointed Acting Warrant-Officer Class II and awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, announced in the London Gazette dated 18 January 1919 : The recipient died on 22 September 1962 at Grims Dyke, Old Redding, Harrow Weald, Middlesex.) : Sold with original forwarding documents for 1914-15 Star and British War Medal; verification; copy Service Papers; copy London Gazette entry and related research - NEF - £425
