SISTER ADA BULL, TERRITORIAL FORCE NURSING SERVICE

BULL, mounted on original silk ribbons as worn, Territorial Force Nursing Service, Cape Badge in silver, mounted on original ribbon with wearing pin to reverse and contained in J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd case of issue : (MISS ADA BULL - Resided in Derby and began her nursing profession in 1912 at the Sheffield Royal Hospital. Joined the Territorial Force Nursing Service in January 1914 and worked at that hospital and Lodge Moor Hospital but with the outbreak of war was detailed to serve as a Sister at the Base Hospital at Sheffield, where she treated injured servicemen who had been evacuated back to England. For her work she was awarded the Royal Red Cross, Second Class, announced in London Gazette dated 3 June 1916 and attended an investiture held at Buckingham Palace on 7 October 1916 when she was presented with the award by His Majesty King George V. On 3 March 1918 she entered the war in Salonika where she served until 21 November 1919. On returning home she resigned from the Territorial Force Nursing Service but was granted permission to retain her Cape Badge. She continued to work in nursing and in March 1943 was appointed by the Bradford Health Committee as Matron of St Luke's Hospital, Bradford, from where she retired in February 1947.) : Sold with original photograph of the recipient as a Staff Nurse; the recipient's ribbon bar, verification for all awards; copy of complete Service Record and correspondence, copy newspaper reports and other related research.
