1208 PRIVATE JOHN WAREING, 3/RIFLE BRIGADE :

1914 Star (1208 Pte. J.Wareing, 3/Rif.Brig.); British War Medal); Victory Medal 1914-19 (1208 Pte. J.F. Wareing, Rif. Brig.) : (JOHN WAREING - Enlisted 23 October 1905 and was serving at Cork, Ireland at the outbreak of war in August 1914 : The 3rd.Battalion, Rifle Brigade landed at St.Nazaire, France from 10 September 1914 and immediately marched across France to the Aisne in order to reinforce the already hard pressed British Expeditionary Force : It then moved north to Flanders and in October 1915 transferred to 24th.Division : On 30 April 1916 the Battalion suffered in the German chlorine and phosgene gas attack at Wulverghem, before moving onto the Somme where it was involved in the Battle of Delville Wood and the Battle of Guillemont : In the Spring of 1917 it was in action at the Battle of Vimy Ridge followed by the Battle of Messines in June, and the Third Battle of Ypres in October, before moving south to take part in in the Cambrai Operations, when the Germans mounted a counter attack : In 1918 the Battalion was again in action on the Somme, the Battle of Cambrai and the Final Advance in Picardy : The recipient was discharged from the Rifle Brigade Depot on 9 September 1919 and is entitled to the Silver War Badge: Note additional initial letter 'F' on both British War Medal. & Victory Medal : Entitlement to the 'Aug.- Nov.1914' Bar is not indicated on the Medal Information Card or Medal Roll.) : Sold with verification EF - £195
