Afghanistan War Medal 1878-80, bars 'Ali Musjid', 'Kandahar', correctly engraved naming - 1354 Gunr. W.YOUNG, 11/9th. Bde. RA.; Kabul to Kandahar Star 1880, officially impressed naming 1354 Gunner W. YOUNG, 11th.Battery, 9th.Bde. RA. (WILLIAM YOUNG - Confirmed as serving with 11th. Mountain Battery, 9th. Brigade, Royal Artillery both at the action of Ali Musjid on 21 November 1878 and the Battle of Kandahar on 1 September 1880, and is also confirmed as taking part in General Roberts' famous march from Kabul to Kandahar between 9 - 31 August 1880. He was present at the action at Hisarak on 14 April 1880 where he was SEVERELY WOUNDED BY SWORD CUT. His medals were sent to him at the Jutogh Cantonment in the Shimla district on 18 May 1882.
