RN.) : (WILLIAM HENRY MANN - Born 3 November 1876 at Paignton, Devon, a schoolboy aged 15years when on 15 April 1892, he joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd.Class at HMS.'Impregnable' : Advanced to Boy 1st.Class from 16 March 1893 and moved to HMS. 'Devastation' from 11 January 1894, when he was rated as Signal Boy : Moved to HMS. 'Blake' from 3 November 1894 and advanced to Signalman, then to HMS. 'Cambridge' as Qualified Signalman from 11 October 1895 : Joined HMS. 'Undaunted' on 23 March 1897 and was still serving in that ship when it participated in the Third China War operations : Continued to serve at sea joining HMS. 'Hogue' as Leading Signalman on 1 February 1903, then to HMS.'Cornwallis' from 9 February1904 but on 23 March of that year, was reduced to Qualified Signalman for neglect of duty : Moved to HMS. 'Maine' from 15 November 1904 and on 1 January 1905 was again advanced to Leading Signalman : On 22 September 1905 he joined HMS. 'Formidable' and was advanced to 2nd Yeoman of Signals from 1 November 1905 : Continued his service both ashore and at sea and with the outbreak of war joined HMS. 'Benbow' from 'Vivid 1' on 21 November 1914 : Moved to the Armed Merchant Cruiser, HMS. 'Orbita' from 1 July 1915, then to HMS. 'Hyacinth' and finally on 1 April 1919 to HMS. 'Crescent' from which he was discharged to Shore Pension on 30 May 1919 : His Service Record shows that from 30 August 1919 he joined the New Coastguard Force, and the Medal Roll records that his medals were sent to him at 'C.Gd.
