'Fox') : (JOHN JOSEPH LONG - Born in the Parish of St.Patrick, Cork, Ireland on 7 February 1884, an errand boy when on 10 May 1900, he joined the Royal Navy as Boy 2nd.Class in HMS. 'Black Prince' : Advanced to Boy 1st.Class from 14 February 1901 and a month later transferred into HMS. 'Minotaur' : Served in 'Agincourt', 'Colossus' and 'Resolution', being advanced to Ordinary Seaman on attaining the age of 18 years on 7 February 1902 : Moved to 'Vivid 1' and then to 'Bulwark' from 18 March 1902 : Advanced to AB. from 26 February 1903 and transferred to 'Renown' from 19 January 1904 : Returned to 'Vivid' on 2 April 1904 and moved to 'Cambridge' on 26 June of that year : Subsequently served at sea in 'Commonwealth'; 'Mars'; 'Cambridge' and 'Emerald' before joining 'Fox' on 19 May 1908 : Advanced to Leading Seaman from 21 May 1909 and moved to 'Hyacinth' from 16 February 1910 : Subsequently served in 'Philomel'; again 'Fox'; 'Gibraltar' and 'Donegal' before finally returning to 'Vivid' from where he was pensioned to 'Shore' on 7 February 1914 : Joined Royal Fleet Reserve from 8 February 1914 and with the outbreak of war served in 'Jupiter' from 16 August 1914 : Moved to 'Endymion' from 11 June 1915 in which ship he served until 14 October 1918, then returned to 'Vivid' from where he was demobilised on 3 March 1919 and finally pensioned to 'Shore' on 10 June 1921.
