1914 Star with original 'Aug.- Nov.1914' Bar (2277 Pte. H.O'Neil, North'd Yeo.); British War Medal; Victory Medal (2277 Pte. H.O'Neill, North'd Yeo.) : (HERBERT O'NEILL - Entered the war with 1st./1st. Northumberland Hussars Yeomanry on 6 October 1914 as part of the 7th.Division which landed at Zeebrugge in Belgium in an attempt to support the Belgian Army in the defence of Antwerp : It soon became apparent that the city could not be defended against overwhelming enemy odds and the Division was compelled to retire to the south-west, Antwerp fell to the enemy a few days later : It then played a crucial part in the stabilisation of the front during the First Battle of Ypres, preventing a German breakthrough, although at a high cost in terms of casualties : The Regiment was split-up in April 1915 : Medals sent to the recipient at 2 Agamemnon Place, Dalmuir, Glasgow.) : Note slight difference in spelling of the recipient's surname on the Star : Recipient confirmed as entitled to the 1914 Bar : Sold with verification, original brass shoulder title badge : Medals mounted on original silk ribbons Scarce GVF - £395
