1914-15 Star (4-2938 Pte. H.H. Kedge, Hamps. R.); British War Medal; Victory Medal 1914-19 (2938 Pte. H.H. Kedge, Hamps.R.) : (HERBERT H. KEDGE - Was born at Surbiton, Surrey on 15 February 1891, the son of Richard Marwick and Elizabeth Kedge : He was baptised as Herbert Marwick Kedge, on 31 July 1893 at St Marks Church, Surbiton but subsequently dropped the name 'Marwick' and was afterwards always known as 'Herbert H. Kedge' : In the 1911 Census Records he is recorded as a Domestic Gardener residing at Combe Court Gardens, employed on the estate of Mr William Thomas Pugh, an Insurance Director, and his wife Anne Pugh : He attested at Salisbury Plain for the 1/4th.(Territorial) Battalion, Hampshire Regiment and entered the War in Mesopotamia (5A Asiatic) on 18 March 1915 : He was KILLED IN ACTION on 21 January 1916 during the unsuccessful operations to relieve the besieged garrison at Kut al Amara : He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, the recipient was just 24 years of age at the date of his death : Kut fell to the Turks on 29 April 1916 when the Battalion Headquarters and one Company of the 1/4th.
