34912 PRIVATE JOSEPH POTTS, 2ND. BN.ROYAL SCOTS, KILLED IN ACTION 10 APRIL 1917
British War Medal; Victory Medal 1914-19 (34912 Pte. R. Scots.) : (JOSEPH POTTS - Born Edinburgh 1885, the third son of Mr Thomas James Potts and Mrs Margaret Nicholson Potts, of 21 Upper Gray Street, Edinburgh. Attended George Heriot's School, Edinburgh 1896-1900, where he played rugby for the School 1st. XV. On leaving school he was employed by North British Railway Offices before joining the Government Railway of Sierra Leone, as Traffic Superintendent. In September 1916 he enlisted in 2nd. Battalion, Royal Scots and entered France in December of that year. Killed in action during an attack at Feuchy Chapel on 10 April 1917, during the Battle of Arras. He has no known grave and is commemorated at Tilloy British Cemetery, Tilloy-Les-Mofflaines, France). Sold with verification, copy extract from Battalion War Diary for 10 April 1917, copy entry from George Heriot's School Roll of Honour 1914-1919, which includes a small portrait photograph of the recipient.
