Dorwood 2-Dns. : (DAVID DORWOOD (DORWARD) - Born around 1878 at Dundee, Forfar, a labourer by trade residing at 15 Vault, High Street, Dundee, when on 8 November 1897 he attested for the Militia at Perth. Joined the 2nd. Dragoons from 9 November 1898. With the outbreak of the Second Boer War he accompanied the Regiment to South Africa, where it arrived at tthe Cape on 7 December 1899. The 2nd.Dragoons were subsequently brigaded with tthe 6th Dragoon Guards to form the 1st. Cavalry Brigade under the command of Brigadier-General Porter. The recipient remained in South Africa until the end of the war in 1902 when he returned to England. With the outbreak of the Great War the Regiment was again mobilised and entered France from 17 August 1914. The recipient entered France on 17 October 1914, and was Discharged 'Time Expired' on 11 November 1915. Note different spelling of surname between Boer War and Great War medals, but that Regimental Number and all other details are identical. The recipient's brother, William Dorwood also served with the 2nd Dragoons in South Africa as Private 4574, and was Mentioned in Lord Kitchener's Final Dispatch dated 23 June 1902.) : Sold with verification, copy Militia Service Papers and related family research. - Medals mounted on original silk ribbons GVF-NEF £725
