1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45 (all unnamed as issued); contained in official box of issue with official Condolence Slip, (slight tear to top edge) : (ALBERT EDWIN LEONARD - Was serving with 1st.Battalion, The Middlesex Regiment stationed at Hong Kong at the outbreak of World War Two : The Battalion fought with great distinction during the Japanese attack on the colony during December 1941, but was eventually forced to surrender on Christmas Day 1941 : The survivors then endured nearly four years of brutal captivity at the hands of the Japanese : The recipient was captured with his Battalion but sadly died of chronic enteritis on 10 September 1942 : He is buried at the Sai Wan War Cemetery, Hong Kong : He was just 23 years of age and the son of Mrs Ellen Leonard of 131 Duke Street, Park, Sheffield 2.) : Sold with official card box of issue addressed to Mr G.D.Leonard, 104 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, London SW10; official Army Council condolence slip; copy of Japanese Prisoner of War index card; copy of a photograph of the Battalion Corps of Drums naming a Pte.
