Artry. : (GEORGE CARR - Born at Wandsworth, London on 28 May 1874, a carman by trade when on 21 November 1894, he attested at Woolwich for the Royal Field Artillery : Initially posted to 1st. Battery as a Driver but was subsequently transferred to 57th. Battery from 5 August 1896 : Served at home until 21 October 1896 on which date the Battery was sent for service in India where during 1897 and 1898, the recipient took part in the campaigns on the Punjab Frontier : On 26 June 1900 he was transferred to 12th. Battery, Madras Command which on 2 July 1900 was deployed to China for service in the "Boxer Rebellion" (Third China War) :The Battery was to remain in China until 30 November 1900 : From 1 December 1900 the recipient was transferred back to 57th.Battery and returned to India where he remained for nearly six years : He was promoted to the Rank of Bombardier from 3 September 1905 and arrived home in England on 27 October 1906 : He was discharged on 20 November 1906 on termination of his first period of engagement : He is believed to have died in December 1942.) : 12th.
