British War Medal; Victory Medal 1914-19 (Capt.) : (GEORGE HERBERT WEDDERBURN - Born at Southampton, Hampshire around 1887, resided with his parents at Bernard Street, Southampton and was employed in his father's business as a scale maker : Joined the Hampshire Yeomanry (Carabiniers) Territorial Force and was subsequently granted a Commission : The Regiment was absorbed into the 15th.(2nd.Portsmouth) Battalion, Hampshire Regiment from 27 September 1917 : Promoted to Captain and entered the war in France from 3 April 1918 : Joined Hampshire Regiment in the field during May 1918 with the rank of Lieutenant : Killed in action on 9 August 1918, on that day the Battalion suffered three Officers killed; four wounded and one missing, with thirteen Other Ranks killed, one hundred and one wounded, eight of whom died of their wounds and a further thirteen men missing : He has no known grave and is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial: His medals were claimed by his brother.) : Sold with verification, copy 1911 Census Record, copy extracts from Battalion War Diary, copy entry from "The Hampshire Independent" newspaper of Saturday, 17 August 1918 reporting the recipient's death.
