CHARLES TIMEWELL, ROYAL MARINES, HMS. 'TRAFALGAR'
Crimea Medal 1854-56, bars,'Balaklava', 'Sebastopol', Turkish Crimea Medal, Sardinian issue,'"La Crimea 1855" with replacement British Crimea medal suspender; both with identical privately engraved naming in neat running script - "Chas Timewell, Royal Marine, HMS.Trafalgar, AD 1855" With original silk ribbons and suspended from individual straight bar pin backed wearing brooches: (CHARLES TIMEWELL - Born around 1833 at Milverton, Somerset, a shoemaker by trade when he attested for the Royal Marines at Plymouth on 3 June 1852. Joined the crew of HMS. 'Trafalgar' from 26 July 1853 and was present in the ship when it entered the war in the Crimea. He was one of the 123 men from 'Trafalgar' who served ashore with the Royal Marine Brigade and is confirmed as being present at the Battle of Balaklava on 25 October 1854, and would also have served in the trenches before Sebastopol during the siege. He left 'Trafalgar' on 29 November 1855 and joined the crew of HMS. 'Ajax' from 27 May 1856, serving at sea in that ship until 14 September 1862. He was discharged on 12 December 1862 then having completed in excess of ten years service. His death at the age of 75 years is recorded as Wellington, Somerset in January 1908.): Sold with verification, copy Service Papers and related family history.
