War Medal 1939-45 (unnamed as issued); Naval General Service Medal 1915-62, bar, 'Minesweeping 1945-51' (S/Lt. RNVR.) : (PAUL JULIAN DAVID GIFFORD - Born in the Southwell district of Nottingham during the third quarter of 1926, the son of Dr Alexander Harold Gifford : Towards the end of the Second World War he served with the Royal Navy, rising from Ordinary Seaman to Lieutenant : Post war he served with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and served in the Algerine Class minesweeper, HMS. 'Magicienne' from 23 March 1946 : Appointed Sub-Lieutenant on 26 June 1946 : Served in HMS. 'Bern' in December 1947 : Promoted to Lieutenant from 26 June 1948 : Served in HMS. 'Abercrombie' from 19 October 1949; HMS. 'Neptune' from 1 July 1950 and at the shore establishment HMS. 'Tamar' in 1952 : He finally reverted to the Emergency List on 23 August 1953 : He attended Cambridge University and is recorded as a sales executive in March 1955 at the time of his marriage in to the author Griselda Mary Honoria Willoughby, (who writes under the name of Griselda Gifford), the couple had two children together but but were divorced in 1987 : He retired from the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander and died in 2016.) : Sold with the recipient's Royal Navy identification disc, ribbon bar and related miniature medals; career details taken from Navy List entries; copy photograph of the recipient in later life and related research : Medals and miniature awards loose mounted as worn EF - £325
