R.Mun.Fus.); Defence Medal (unnamed as issued) : (IAN HODGHSON BEATTIE - Born 19 August 1882 at Edinburgh, Scotland : He was farming in Rhodesia when the First World War broke out and on 13 January 1915 he made an application for a Commission in 5th.Battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers : Commissioned Second Lieutenant on probation - London Gazette 9 February 1915 : Confirmed Second Lieutenant, Royal Munster Fusiliers, London Gazette 30 August 1915 : Entered the war in Gallipoli on 5 September 1915 as Second Lieutenant with 1st.Battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers : He would have been evacuated with the Battalion from Gallipoli to Mudros and then to Egypt in January 1916 : The Battalion entered France & Flanders from 19 March 1916 : He was posted for service in Mesopotamia on 30 March 1917 and disembarked at Basra 28 June 1917 : He was attached to 5th.Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment, which he joined in the field on 26 July 1917 : Proceeded to India on 20 March 1919 and was then attached to 1/4th.Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment for service in Afghanistan during the North West Frontier Campaign of 1919 : Embarked for England via Bombay 28 November 1919 : Relinquished Commission 23 November 1920, retaining Rank of Lieutenant.) : Sold with verification; copy Officer's Papers; copy London Gazette entries and copy Birth Certificate. Medals professionally mounted on original silk ribbons from a Spink & Son brooch-bar as worn by the recipient and contained in velvet lined fitted case.
