Joined 'Drake' Battalion in the field 12 December 1916 : Severely wounded at Wimereux on 5 February 1917 bomb wounds to both legs and on 22 February 1917 was evacuated to Albert Hall Hospital, Nottingham : From 19 October 1917 drafted to 'Drake' Battalion from Base Depot, Calais to join unit : Joined 'Drake' Battalion in the field on 13 November 1917 : On 30 December 1917 in action at Abbeville, received gun-shot wound to hand and evacuated to hospital at Base Depot, Calais : From 4 February 1918 rejoined 'Drake' Battalion : On 25 March 1918 reported 'Missing', subsequently traced as 'Prisoner of War' in German hands at Kriegsgerfangenen-Kommandantur Wahn, Limburg : Repatriated to England arriving at Dover on 2 December 1918 : Demobilized from 12 February 1919 and discharged 11 March 1919 : Joined the Royal Navy at HMS.
