Crimea Medal 1854-56, bars, 'Alma', 'Balaklava', 'Sebastopol'; Regimenally impressed naming in bold upright serif capital letters - 3597 BENJAMIN WHITEHEAD, 28th..Regt..; Abyssinia Campaign Medal 1868, embossed naming to reverse - 1311 B.WHITEHEAD, 1st.Battn. 4th.The K.O.R. Regt., possible repair to suspender; Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, Victoria, small letter reverse, swivelling scroll suspender, officially impressed naming - 1525 B.WHITEHEAD, 55th.Foot; Turkish Crimea Medal 1855, British issue with replacement swivelling scroll suspender, unnamed as issued : (BENJAMIN WHITEHEAD - Born at Manchester, Lancashire around 1835, a labourer by trade, he attested for 80th. Regiment in 1853 but transferred into the 28th.Regiment with which he served in the Crimea, and was one of only twenty-three men from the Regiment to receive the bar for the 'Action of Balaklava' : On 3 January 1864 he transferred into the 49th. Foot and then on 1 December 1867, he transferred again, this time into 1/4th.(The King's Own Royal Regiment), with which he served in the Abyssinia Campaign of 1867-68 and was awarded the Abyssinia Medal : Less than a year later, he transferred for the last time, on this occasion joining the 55th.Foot from 1 July 1868 : Serving in this Regiment he was awarded the Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal and was discharged at Netley on 14 April 1874.) : Sold with verification, copy Service Papers and related research : Contact marking to the rim of the Crimea Medal has all but obliterated the Service Number but the remainder of the naming is perfectly legible and he is the only man of this surname shown on the Medal Roll of the Regiment : A scarce combination generally NVF and better - £1395
