R.Highrs.) : (HENRY WORTHINGTON - Born and enlisted at St. Helens, Lancashire, entered the war in France with 2nd.Battalion, The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) from 8 June 1915 : The Battalion was deployed to Mesopotamia from 31 December 1915 and on 21 January 1916 was involved at the First Attack on Hanna. "The Black Watch ran out of grenades, despite capturing and utilizing Turkish supplies. Command of the Battalion passed to Second-Lieutenant Henderson, who, when it was suggested that the survivors should withdraw, replied, "How can I order the Regiment to retire?" They were forced back to their start positions.
