FIELDING, Capns. Coxn. HMS. Algiers 21yrs., St.Jean D'Acre Medal 1840, copper, double ring suspender, unnamed as issued : (THOMAS FIELDING - Born 26 July 1816 at Torpoint, Cornwall, entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd.Class, at the age of 14 years on 17 October 1830, serving firstly in HMS. Caledonia (for HMS. Kent) leaving that ship on 13 December 1831 : He next served in HMS. Fly (for HMS.Gannet) being advanced to Boy 1st.Class from 13 October 1833. He went to HMS. Canopus on 18 April 1834 and was advanced to Ordinary Seaman from 2 November 1835. He left Canopus on 18 February 1837 for HMS. Comus and was advanced to Able Seaman in that ship on 10 March of that year. His record shows that whilst in Comus on 18 November 1837 he 'Ran' , but this designation was removed from the record on 15 September 1849. He joined HMS. Malabar from 22 February 1838 and continued to serve in that ship until 1 February 1839 when he was transferred to HMS. Implacable and was still serving in that ship when it went into action on 3 November 1840 at the bombardment and capture of Acre, Syria. He continued to serve in various ships and rose through the rates being advanced to Master at Arms in October 1842 and was serving in HMS. Royal George as Boatswain's Mate during the Baltic Campaign of 1854-55. He was advanced to Captain's Coxswain from 7 September 1856 whilst serving in HMS. Algiers and in the same year was awarded the Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. His final ship was HMS. Indus which he joined on 14 July 1860 and from which he was shore pensioned on 19 July 1868 having then completed a total of 38 years service. He died in Plymouth at the age of 77 years, in the first quarter of 1894.) : Sold with verification, copy Service Records and other related research : Only one other medal to this name on the entire Roll, a Private Royal Marines entitled to the bar 'Lissa' : Slight edge bruise to first medal below letter 'F' of surname but naming not affected.
