Foot (The Berkshire Regiment) : (Private DANIEL KNIGHT is confirmed on the Regimental Medal Roll, the Casualty Roll and in the London Gazette published on Friday, November 19, 1880, as KILLED IN ACTION AT THE BATTLE OF MAIWAND, 27 July 1880. "One of the grandest examples of heroism in the annals of war, where the Regiment lost its colours and ten Officers and two hundred and seventy five Other Ranks were killed". Commemorated on the 'Maiwand Lion' war memorial in the Forbury Gardens, at Reading, Berkshire.)
