QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL, 6TH. (INNISKILLING) DRAGOONS, WOUNDED AT VIRGINIA KOPJE, 10 MAY 1900 : DIED OF ENTERIC FEVER 8 FEBRUARY 1902

Bars, 'Cape Colony', 'Orange Free State', 'Belfast', 'South Africa 1901', 'South Africa 1902' (last two bars loose on ribbon), officially engraved naming - 3048 Serjt. F. CREW, 6/Drgns. (Dragoons) : (FREDERICK W. CREW - Born around 1870 at Christian Malford, Wiltshire, the youngest son of Thomas and Martha Crew. From late 1899, he served in South Africa as a Serjeant with the 6th. Inniskilling Dragoons and on 10 May 1900 was wounded in the action at Virginia Kopje (official Casualty Roll gives location as Vredes Verdrag) : Subsequently promoted from Serjeant to Squadron Serjeant-Major : Recorded as 'Died of Enteric at Heilbron on 8 February 1902' at the age of 32 years : Commemorated on a Plaque erected by his family at All Saints Church, Christian Malford. Recorded on Medal Rolls as 'Deceased') : Sold with verification, copy Casualty Roll entries, copy image of the Commemorative Plaque at All Saints Church.
