Queen's Sudan Medal 1896-97, officially engraved naming in upright capital letters - 4913 Pte. W. McCORMICK, 2/Lanc. Fus. : (Private W. McCORMICK - Confirmed as serving with the Regiment during the Sudan Campaign, including the Expedition to Khartoum in 1898, and would have been present at the Battle of Omdurman on 2 September 1898, and the entry into the city of Khartoum : Subsequently served with the Regiment in the Second Boer War where it took part in the disasterous action at Spion Kop on 24 January 1900. Initially reported as 'Missing' but later traced among the dead and correctly recorded both on the Medal Roll and the Spion Kop Memorial as 'KILLED IN ACTION' 24 January 1900.
