British War Medal 1914-18 : 15621 Pte. R.H. LLOYD, Yorks LI. (King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry) : (ROBERT HARRISON LLOYD - Born at Goole, in the West Riding of Yorkshire in 1896 and enlisted in the 8th.(Service) Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry which was formed at Pontefract in September 1914 : Landed at Boulogne, France on 26 August 1915 : On 1 July 1916, the First Day of the Battle of the Somme, the Battalion went into action with twenty five Officers, a Medical Officer and six-hundred and fifty nine Other Ranks : At the conclusion of the action on that day the Medical Officer brought out the surviving one hundred and ten men, all the Officers and some five hundred and fifty men were either killed, wounded or lay missing in no mans land. The recipient was among those killed on that day. He is buried at Serre Road Cemetery No.2 : He was the son of John J. and Harriett Lloyd of 3 Sotheron Street, Goole, Yorkshire and was just twenty years of age on the day of his death.) : Sold with verification, copy 1901 Census, copy CWGC. information VF - £295
