CRIMEA WAR MEDAL 1854-56 : 55TH. REGIMENT : DIED FROM WOUNDS SUSTAINED AT INKERMANN
Bars, 'Alma', 'Inkermann', 'Sebastopol' with officially impressed naming - C. HARPER, 55th. Regiment. (There is no man named "C.HARPER" recorded on the Medal Roll of the 55th. Regiment, serving in the Crimea. Only two men with the surname of HARPER are recorded on the Regiment's Crimea Medal roll, these being :- JOHN CHARLES HARPER and THOMAS HARPER. It is entirely possible therefore that the Royal Mint operative took the letter 'C' from JOHN C.HARPER whose name appears written as such on the Roll immediately above that of THOMAS HARPER, and incorrectly impressed his medal as "C.HARPER". It is confirmed that THOMAS HARPER, was dangerously wounded at the Battle of Inkermann on 5 November 1854 and subsequently died of his wounds. Both John Charles Harper and Thomas Harper are recorded as "Dead" on the Roll for the Sebastopol clasp.) : Sold with verification and copy Casualty Roll entry.
