GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL 1918-62, RAF. ARMOURED CAR COMPANY, KURDISTAN
General Service Medal 1918-62, GVR., bar, 'Kurdistan', officially impressed naming - 343688 AC.2 G. PONDER, RAF. (Royal Air Force) : (GEORGE PONDER : Born 22 January 1889 at Dublin. Ireland, employed as a Tailor Trimmer when on 17 May 1917, he attested for the Army Service Corps. Served in France with the Machine Transport Unit as a heavy lorry driver attached to the Royal Artillery from February 1918 to November 1919. Discharged 31 March 1920 and on 7 October of that year enlisted in the Royal Air Force as an Aircraftsman 2nd.Class.(Driver). Subsequently qualified proficient as a Driver on 31 December 1920 and served in Iraq from 22 April 1922 joining the Royal Air Force Armoured Car Company from 10 June 1922. Served with 5th.Armoured Car Company from 11 November 1922 to 13 October 1923 during which time the unit took part in operations in Kurdistan. Served with Headquarters, Middle East from 14 October 1923 to 6 November 1923 and then with 2nd. Armoured Car Company until 12 March 1927 and at Sarfand until 15 April 1927. Transferred back to England from 16 April 1927 for service with Royal Air Force Motor Squadron. Placed on reserve from 7 October 1927 and finally discharged on 6 October 1937, giving his address as Dublin, Ireland.) : Sold with copy Army Service Papers, copy Royal Air Force Service Papers, which confirm the award of the medal for 'Kurdistan', copy entry of Census of Ireland 1911 and other related research.
