Bar, 'Bhootan', officially impressed naming - 808 J.MULLIS, HM's. 55th. Regt. (Westmorland) : (JOSEPH MULLIS - Was born in the Parish of West Bromwich, Staffordshire around 1843, a labourer by trade on the date he attested for the 55th.Regiment at Acocks Green, Birmingham, 21 January 1862 : He served in India in excess of thirteen years including the Bhootan Campaign between February and October of 1865 : On 6 January 1878, he was transferred to the 90th. Light Infantry and subsequently accompanied the Regiment to South Africa where it was engaged in operations against the Gcalekas and Gaikas and other tribes : In 1879 the 90th.Regiment served in the Zulu War and was heavily engaged at the battle of Kambula on 29 March and at the final battle of Ulundi on 4 July : The recipient is confirmed as being present and was awarded the South Africa General Service Medal with bar, '1877-8-9' : He was discharged at Hamilton, Scotland, on 20 August 1880 having completed in excess of eighteen years service : His intended place of residence was given as Leamington.) : Sold with verification, copy Service Record and related research : Some light contact marks but generally GVF - £365
