INDIA GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL 1908, ARGYLL & SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDERS :

Bar, 'North West Frontier 1935', officially impressed naming - 2979184 Pte. D. DAVIDSON, A.& S.H. (Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders) : (The recipient was serving in Waziristan with 2nd.Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, where between 27-28 May 1937, the Battalion was involved in the pursuit of the leader of the rebel hostile tribesmen, the Fakir of Ipi and had reached Arsalkot, where the Fakir had been hiding in a cave whilst conducting operations. The cave was discovered and found to be empty and the surrounding area appeared to be deserted. Whilst advancing and constructing picket posts the Battalion was ambushed and suffered a number of casualties in the action that followed. Six men, including the recipient were killed and a further seven men were wounded.) : A medal to a rare inter-war casualty, sold with verification and copy newspaper reports of the incident in which the recipient is named.
