(Oxfordshire Light Infantry) : (GABRIEL HICKS - Was born at Great Rissington, Gloucestershire around 1871 and on 25 September 1890 at Oxford, he attested for the Oxfordshire Light Infantry : Subsequently posted to the 2nd.Battalion and appointed Bugler : Served in India and took part in the Tirah Campaign of 1897-98 : Died in India of Enteric Fever (Typhoid) on 22 July 1898 : The recipient is listed on the Regimental Memorial for the Tirah Campaign 1897-9, situated in Bonn Square, Oxford,) : Sold with verification; copy Service Papers (burnt) and other related research : Mounted on a long length of original silk ribbon through which a button hole has been fashioned to facilitate wearing, presumably by family member.
