INDIAN MUTINY MEDAL 1857-58, 88TH. REGIMENT (CONNAUGHT RANGERS) :
Bar, 'Central India', officially impressed naming - MICHL. GLEESON, 88th. Regt. (Connaught Rangers) : (There were two men named MICHAEL GLEESON serving with the Regiment during the Indian Mutiny (1) 2645 Private, also served in the Crimea and was wounded during the Assault on the Quarries on 7 June 1855. He is shown on Indian Mutiny Medal Roll as 'Discharged' : (2) 4997 Private, is shown on Indian Mutiny Medal Roll as serving with Regiment..) The medal is free from any contact marks and appears not to have been worn or cleaned and is therefore likely to be that awarded to 2645 GLEESON, who would have had very little opportunity to wear his medal after leaving the Army, whereas 4997 GLEESON remained serving and would have been expected to wear his medal for parades and other duties : Sold with verification and copy Crimea Casualty Roll entry EF - £625
