INDIAN MUTINY MEDAL 1857-8 : 7TH. HUSSARS
No bar, officially impressed naming - JAS STEWART, 7th HUSRS. (Hussars) : (On 27 August 1857 the Regiment sailed from Gravesend and arrived in Calcutta on 27 November after a three month voyage. The recipient, JAMES STEWART is recorded on the Medal Roll as being in the actions at Nusseratpore and Nawabgunge. At the latter on 13 June 1858, the Regiment met with staunch rebel resistance but "charged twice and went through them successfully, killing all they came across", but suffered twenty-three men wounded in the process.) Only 103 medals without bar were awarded to the Regiment. so somewhat scarce. One slight edge bruise over 'RT' of surname but naming not affected.
