Bar, 'Corunna', officially impressed naming - JAMES RARE, Corpl. 26th. Foot : (JAMES RARE - Born in the Parish of Deal, near the Town of Deal, Kent around 1782, and enlisted into 7th. Regiment of Foot in 1800, his age recorded in his Service Papers as then being 18 years of age : He was transferred into 4th.Foot in 1803 and then into 26th.Foot in 1808 : Present in Captain Cambell's Company at Corunna on 16 January 1809 : Discharged to the 3rd. Regiment of Veteran Battalion on 6 July 1814, in consequence of, "the Reduction (size of the Army) and being worn out" : Recorded at "Waterford, Died 16 January 1873".) : Sold with verification and copy Discharge Certificate : Regiment received 162 medals for 'Corunna' : Previously in the Phillips Collection 1965, and sold by Donald Hall 1984 : One slight edge bruise below 'RP' of 'CORPL', but naming not affected : Nicely toned GVF- NEF - £1185
