PROBABLE JAMESON RAIDER BRITISH SOUTH AFRICA COMPANY'S MEDAL 1896

Reverse 'Rhodesia 1896', officially engraved naming in bold upright capital letters - TRPR JOHN KENNY MATABELELAND R.F. (Matabeleland Relief Force) : (Confirmed on Forsyth Roll for Rhodesia 1896. There is a Trooper JOHN KENNY shown in the list of the 'The Jameson Raiders', recorded as serving with 'D Troop' under the command of Captain Gordon Valiancy Drury, Bechuanaland Border Police. He was taken prisoner at Doornkop at which time he stated that he was English, 19 years of age with an address at Mafeking, Bechuanaland. As no other recipient of this name has been traced, it is entirely likely that this is the medal awarded to the man who took part in the Jameson Raid of 1895.) One slight edge bruise but naming not effected GVF - £525
