(Royal Dublin Fusiliers) : (CHRISTOPHER RYAN - Born in the Parish of St. Anne, Cork, Ireland around 1877, a labourer by trade on the date of attestation for the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, at Cork on 11 October 1895 : Served at home with 1st. Battalion, from 22 February 1896 : Posted to 2nd.Battalion from 25 November 1897, for service in South Africa : Wounded in action at Glencoe (Talana) on 20 October 1899, and in consequence did not take part in the operations for the Relief of Ladysmith : Remained in South Africa and was transferred to 1st.Battalion from 20 January 1902 : On 2 June 1902 he was tried by Field General Court Martial for using insubordinate language to a superior officer and sentenced to 84 days imprisonment : Returned home on 9 April 1903 and was placed on Army Reserve : Discharged at Belfast on 10 October 1907, 'on termination of his first period of engagement' : Also entitled to the King's South Africa Medal with two bars.) : Sold with verification; copy Service & Discharge Papers; copy Casualty Roll.
