QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL, ROYAL MUNSTER FUSILIERS, DIED OF WOUNDS ROOIGRAND.

Bars, 'Modder River', 'Orange Free State', officially impressed naming - 5527 Pte. P. KENNY, Munster Fus.: (PATRICK KENNY - Born at Grove, Limerick around 1880, a labourer by trade when he attested for the Royal Munster Fusiliers on 8 May 1897 and was posted to 1st.Battalion of the Regiment : With the outbreak of the Second Boer War the Battalion was deployed to South Africa where KENNY was attached to the Mounted Infantry Company : On 18 August 1900, he was SEVERELY WOUNDED in action at Rooigrand and DIED OF HIS WOUNDS shortly afterwards, being recorded on the Medal Roll as 'Killed'. He is commemorated on the Regimental Memorial Cross at Killarney : Only nineteen men from the 1st.Battalion were killed in action or died of wounds during the Boer War, whilst the bar for 'Modder River' is particularly scarce to the Regiment, 'Cresswell's Irish Medals' shows only half of one Company, consisting two Officers and sixty-nine Other Ranks being entitled.) : Sold with verification and copy Casualty Roll entry where his Regimental Number is incorrectly shown as '5537' : Rare - EF - £795
