( STAFF-SERJEANT ARMOURER JAMES SHAW - Born at Reading, Berkshire on 21 September 1879, a Gunmaker residing at Kingston-Upon-Thames, Surrey at the time he attested for the South African Constabulary in February 1901: Proceeded to South Africa in March 1901 with his service counting from 31 March 1901:Served with 'C'(Eastern) Division: Promoted from 3rd.Class Trooper to Staff-Serjeant Armourer on 8 August 1901: Received an Official Reprimand on 2 December 1901 for, 'Using improper language' : By early March 1902 he was proving to be inefficient and unsuitable to carry out the work required of an Armourer in the field: He was therefore discharged from the Constabulary on 11 April 1902.) : Note initial on medal is 'G' in accordance with the Roll, supplementary Roll for date bars shows initial correctly as 'J' : Service Number consistant: Sold with verification and copy Service Records; medal mounted on original ribbon: One very small edge bruise otherwise GVF - £195
