Bar, '1879', correct style of engraved naming - Pte. G.BAKER, Queenstown Vol. R. Corps (The Unit took part in operations against the Basutos lead by the troublesome Baphuti witch doctor, Moirosi, who with 1500 of his followers had taken refuge in a fortified stronghold, known as Moirosi's Mountain. Assaults against the stronghold between April and June of 1879 had resulted in ignominious failure and the investment dragged on into November. On the night of 20 November 1879, the eastern face of the mountain was successfully scaled, and with simultaneous assaults on the northern and southern faces, the defenders were surprised and eventually overpowered. Moirosi died with his warriors : Only 33 medals with the bar '1879' were awarded to the Unit.) : Sold with verification. Very light contact marks but generally Scarce NEF - £950
