Bar, '1879', correct style of engraved naming - 1240 Pte. G.BELLINGER, 90th.Foot (Perthshire Volunteers Light Infantry) : (GEORGE BELLINGER - Born at Broadway, Evesham, Worcestershire around 1858, a miner by trade on the date of attestation at Walsall, 17 March 1877 : Served at home until 10 January 1878 on which date the Regiment left for service in South Africa where it later formed part of the column commanded by Colonel Sir Evelyn Wood : The column was in action against the Zulu Army at Hlobane and Kambula on 28-29 March 1879 and in the final major battle against the Zulus at Ulundi on 4 July 1879 : The recipient remained in South Africa until 18 October 1879 when the Regiment was posted to India : Returned home on 28 May 1883 and was placed on Army Reserve from 21 June 1883 : Discharged at Hamilton, 'in consequence of the termination of his first period of engagement' on 9 March 1889.) : Sold with verification and copy Service Papers: A total of 388 medals with the bar '1879' were awarded to the Regiment : Some very slight edge bruising not affecting naming.
