SUTLEJ CAMPAIGN MEDAL 1845-1846 : 80TH. REGIMENT (STAFFORDSHIRE VOLUNTEERS)

Reverse exergue - 'Moodkee 1845', bars, 'Ferozeshuhur', 'Sobraon', officially impressed naming, EDWIN PURDY, 80th. Regt. (Staffordshire Volunteers) : (EDWIN PURDY - Aged 20 years, a labourer by trade, enlisted at Marylebone, London, Middlesex, on 20 May 1841 and joined the 80th.Regiment in New South Wales, Australia on 21 March 1842. The Regiment was then acting as Colonial Garrison Troops and convict guards. Headquartered in Sydney and Windsor, detachments were deployed to Norfolk Island, the Hunter Valley and the Blue Mountains, with some personnel assisting in the Mounted Police. The Regiment left Australia for India in 1844 and was garrisoned at Lahore. The recipient was present with the Regiment during the First Sikh War when it took part in the actions at Moodkee on 18 December 1845; Ferozeshuhur between 21-22 December 1845 and Sobraon on 10 February 1846. He is recorded as having died at Dinapore on 17 May 1848.)
